Understanding Islamophobia and Antisemitism in Europe and the UK in 2018

January, 2018

The APPG Against Antisemitism, in association with the European University Institute, held an event in Parliament to discuss the historical connection, and contemporary association, of antisemitism and Islamophobia. Co-Editors Dr James Renton (European University Institute) and Dr Ben Gidley (Birkbeck, University of London) presented their research and academic findings from their recent publication ‘Antisemitism and Islamophobia in Europe: A Shared Story’. This was followed by a panel discussion covering multiple issues, including: communal relations, lessons from wider anti-racism discourse, and the power of education to combat hate. Attendees included Lord Shinkwin, Lord Wasserman, Lord Dubs, civil servants, and NGO representatives. The event was recorded and can be accessed here.

Chairs: John Mann MP and Louise Ellman MP.

Speakers: Dr James Renton (European University Institute) and Dr Ben Gidley (Birkbeck, University of London).

Panellists: Dr Omar Khan (Runnymede Trust), Danny Stone MBE (Antisemitism Policy Trust) and Sally Sealey (Department for Communities and Local Government)
