London Half-Day Tour 2

June, 2018

Following the success of its first half-day tour, the All-Party Parliamentary Group Against Antisemitism held another half-day visit in London, providing participants with a proper understanding of antisemitism, and enabling them to gain a real insight into the Jewish Community’s fears and concerns.

Delegation participants: Karen Buck MP, Rt Hon Alistair Carmichael MP, Rosie Duffield MP, Mike Freer MP, Rebecca Harris MP, and Paula Sherriff MP.

The delegation began the day at the headquarters of the CST where they were briefed about the community’s security operation and modern antisemitism by a number of leading experts.

The group then transferred to a Jewish School and heard directly from pupils about their thoughts and feelings on being young Jews in Britain. Among the topics discussed were Personal, Social, Health and Economic education and school security.

Following the school visit, MPs met with the Union of Jewish Students to try and better understand antisemitism on university campuses. A number of issues were considered including the effect of Israel Apartheid Week on students, and the role of the soon-to-be-created Office for Students.

Finally, the parliamentarians were briefed over lunch by Dr Joe Mulhall (HOPE not Hate, Senior Researcher), Tim Robertson (Anne Frank Trust UK, Chief Executive) and Mark Lester (FutureLearn).

Danny Stone MBE, Director of the Antisemitism Policy Trust, drew together the different policy concerns from the day and brought the visit to a close
